Self Drive Eastern Cuba Tour (G)
Day 1:
Arrive in Holguin. After you pick up your vehicle drive to Pernik Hotel. Dinner at the hotel. PERNIK HOTEL.
Day 2:
Departure to Bayamo, one of the first cities founded by the Spaniards.. You can walk around the historic centre and visit the Museum of History., the church San Salvador de Bayamo and the Boulevard where some shops, bookshops, cafeterias and other commercial activities are found. The Hotel Sierra Maestra is a nice place to have lunch. ROYALTON HOTEL.
Day 3:
Departure to Santiago de Cuba. Your day will be spend sightseeing around the city. Casa de La Trova, La Maison, and Espantasuenos Disco are some places where you can listen to some Cuban music, go dancing, and have some fun. MELIA SANTIAGO
Day 4:
Today you have two main options. Either you take the whole day to walk the city up and down, or you divide your day between the city and Baconao Park. In Santiago you can visit Cespedes Park at the historic center, the Cathedral, the House of Diego Velazquez (Museum of Colonial Furniture), the Casa de la Trova, where the old traditional singers gather, Bacardi Museum, Moncada Garrison, and the Morro Castle. El Morro, the restaurant by the castle, is a fine place to have lunch. Baconao Park stretches along the Caribbean coast enclosing part of the Sierra MaestraMountains. A visit to La Gran Piedra Mountain is not to be missed. Nearby you can visit La Isabelica, a former French coffee-growing Hacienda. Also in Baconao Park you can visit the Auto Museum, and the Valley of Prehistory. If you are interested in Cuban religion, a visit to the Sanctuary of El Cobre could prove interesting. A suggestion for the night is the show at the Tropicana Cabaret, a colorful spectacle with Cuban music. You can have your dinner before the show at the restaurant, El Pavo Real, at the Cabaret. Day 5:
Departure to Baracoa. A stop in Guantanamo for lunch and some rest is adviseable. The last 30 km. that cross the mountains from Guantanamo to Baracoa go through an impressive road called La Farola which at times will give you the impression of flying off the cliffs of the mountain. Baracoa is a natural protected area and the first city founded by the Spaniards in Cuba. EL CASTILLO
Day 6:
A City Tour is mandatory. Visit the Matachin Garrison and the local History Museum. Walking the narrow streets of Baracoa and getting to knowthe locals will be part of your experience. The rest of the time will be spent touring around the rural areas of Baracoa. Coffee, banana, cacao and coconut plantations are spread all around. Some local farmers will be willing to accept your visit and show you around. Sometimes fresh fruits are offered. EL CASTILLO
Day 7:
Departure to Cayo Saetia. Passing the region of Moa there is a dramatic change of landscape since here, one of the biggest nickel reserves of the world is found. Cayo Saetia is a 42 sq. km. island covered by forest where some exotic and endemic fauna (deer, antelope, zebras, cows, buffalo etc.) can be seen. There are several small, beautiful beaches located on the island. Horseback riding is optional. Lunch on the island is recommended. CAYO SAETIA
Day 8:
Departure to Guardalavaca. If you are extending your vacation spending a few days at the beach your vehicle will be returned at the hotel in which you are staying. If you are departing on this day then you will return your vehicle to Holguin.
